University goes VOD

We're using VOD (Video on Demand) - the fast growing way of watching tv programmes - for the first time this year as part of our autumn campaign to generate enquiries for undergraduate and postgraduate entry in September 2010.

The most famous VOD is BBC iPlayer and we will advertise on Channel 4's 4OD in the North. 4OD has strong viewing figures among 16-24 year olds so is perfect for us to get our message across to the right audience. Our bring your dreams advert will appear when top shows such as Hollyoaks, Skins and 90210 are viewed. This is the first time we have used VOD so we will monitor the results closely.

Silver screen beckons

You can't keep a good advert down and our bring your dreams advert will feature on thirteen screens in cinemas in Carlisle and Lancaster between 27 November 2009 and 14 January 2010. Many moviegoers are just the sort of people we are looking to recruit to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes so we hope they will visit our website and ultimatley, join us in September 2010.

Facebook to aid enquiry generation

Were using Facebook to help generate enquiries for undergraduate and postgraduate entry in September 2009. New posters and postcards supporting the drive will be used in key feeder schools and institutions by our outreach team. Enquirers will be able to "talk" to a number of our student ambassadors and find out what life is like as University of Cumbria student. To find the Facebook page, sign into your account (or create one for free at facebook.com)
and search for official University of Cumbria.

Welcome to the clearing plus campaign blog

Our clearing plus campaign 2009 launches in July and will continue through August and into September to help generate additional enquiries and applications for UG, PG, PGCE and FE courses.

Undergraduate
The UCAS website is expected to receive eight million visits during clearing so we have secured a prominent banner advert from 20 August for 4 weeks that will enable enquirers to easily access our website which will feature helpful clearing information.

We will also advertise on MSN, Facebook and Bebo – key sites that will allow us to target 17 – 23 year olds in the north-west and three radio stations, CFM, The Bay and Rock FM which also allow us to do the same.

As agreed in our Recruitment Strategy we will also be delivering targeted advertising in selected sites in the Lancaster, Blackpool and the Fylde coast to build brand awareness and prompt applications.

PG and PGCE
Both PG and PGCE will benefit from the regional radio activity and features on our website. Specific online activity will include advertising on Graduate Prospects, a large variety of branded web sites that can deliver our target audience and Google Adwords activity.

FE
Tailored radio adverts on CFM will signpost enquirers to our web site supported by local press adverts promoting the FE advice day on 28 August 2009.

In addition to the above the outreach team will be in schools and in the community with university promotional trailer to raise awareness of the university at this critical time in the recruitment cycle. We will also be proactively working with local and regional media providing positive news stories to raise our profile and positioning ourselves as the experts in HE/FE advice and guidance.
